Iran warns of ceasefire misuse for fortifying terrorists

TEHRAN, Jan. 17 (MNA) – Head of Iran's SNSC Ali Shamkhani said ceasefire and political talks must be protected against the misuse of Syria’s enemies as a tactic to revive and arm terrorists.

Leader’s representative and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani made the remark in a meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis in Tehran on Tuesday, highlighting the need for constant vigilance against enemies’ plots aimed at creating diversion on the path of Iran-Syria-Russia successful cooperation in fighting terrorism.

“Playing an active and effective role on political processes is by far more complicated than defense and security cooperation,” he said, adding “it needs constant consultation, cooperation and participation of the three countries in all process of decision making and operations.”

“The continuation of comprehensive efforts for liberating the rest of the cities occupied by terrorists in order to return peace and security to Syria, and simultaneously following up on Syrian-Syrian dialogues for achieving a national unity, are the two keys to further victory in managing the current crisis in the Arab country,” he stressed.

“We will welcome any political initiative that meets the actual demands of the Syrian people,” Shamkhani added.

Syrian Prime Minister Khamis, for his part, underscored the importance of political solutions for settling the crisis, adding “the Syrian government has always engaged in talks with unarmed oppositions that value the preservation of unity in their country.”

Khamis further thanks Iran for its extensive support to the people and government of Syria. He noted that a sustainable solution for establishing peace and security in Syria is achieved only if certain countries would stop sponsoring terrorism and begin a real, non-propagandist fight against ISIL, al-Nusta Front and other affiliated groups.
